I read a fair portion of Kevin Mitnick's 2002 book The Art of Deception, in which, among other things, he advises the use of 8-letter passwords generated randomly using this template: CVCVCVCV (in which C=Consonant and V=Vowel). Passwords generated this way, because possibly pronounceable, are easier to remember than 100% random 8-character strings.
